Validation of the Model of Factors Affecting the Promotion of Students' Social Skills with a Focus on Responsibility

This study was conducted with the aim of validating the model of factors affecting the promotion of students' social skills with a focus on responsibility. The research method was a mixed type (qualitative and quantitative). In the qualitative part, using semi-structured interviews with 15 experts (university professors and directors of private schools) and qualitative content analysis, the dimensions and components of the model were identified in three main areas of factors related to school, family, and students. In the quantitative part, using a researcher-made questionnaire derived from qualitative components, data were collected from 318 directors and teachers of private junior high schools in regions 1 and 2 of Tehran. The research findings showed that all three factors of school, family, and students have a significant effect on the promotion of students' social skills. Based on the Friedman test, the priority of the influence of these factors was, in order, the family (with components such as positive attitudes and constructive interaction), the school (with components such as skill-based curriculum, cooperative learning methods, active teaching method and school supportive environment), and then the internal factors of the students (such as social adjustment, cooperation, self-control and academic skills). The structural model of the research was confirmed using Amos software and the optimal fit indices were evidence of the appropriate validity of the model. The results emphasize the central and integrated role of the family, school and the individual characteristics of the student in the process of improving social skills through responsibility and showed the need to adopt a comprehensive and coordinated approach in educational and family environments to cultivate responsible and social citizens.
